Dutch Robinson’s musical path has been a long and winding one. With a powerful range, singing everything from jazz, to R&B and funky soul, his voice is one to be reckoned with.
From the South Bronx of New York to the rock-strewn shores of the Bay of Fundy he has shared the stage with many famous acts. As lead singer of the legendary R&B group, The Ohio Players, Dutch toured, recorded and appeared on Soul Train and The Tonight Show with the Players. He co-wrote their material, and incidentally performed the Ohio Player version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow requested at Judy Garland’s funeral.
After having worked with the likes of Tommy Motolla, Daryl Hall, John Oates, Melba Moore, Kid Creole & the Coconuts, and Curtis Mayfield, Dutch shifted gears and sought a new start in Canada where he continued his musical journey, eventually landing a role in the musical theatrical production about the life of Marvin Gaye, featured in New York, Montreal, Toronto, and at the Bernard Shaw Theatre, in London, England.
Since moving to Vancouver, he has continued writing and performing with numerous talents and he is one of Vancouver’s most respected and in demand music producers.
Q: How much does it cost to have a live band?
Cost is often related to the specific entertainer or band and what they expect to make.
Generally the cost of the act is related to the number of musicians; whether or not a sound system and sound tech is needed; the length of time the service is required; the expenses entailed to the musicians such long distance travel and parking fees while the the event occurs.
Additionally the size of the venue and type of event will affect the cost.
Q: What do I need to prepare if the event is to take place out doors?
The entertainers and anyone sharing the stage need to be protected from the outdoor elements like rain, wind and sun. Depending on the time of year, extra equipment like outdoor heaters or tents to cover everyone may have to be set up. Although a stage is not required, a dedicated space where the musicians can safely perform without guests getting in their way is; Sometimes the shade of a tree works in the case of short outdoor ceremonies but we you'll want to be prepared.
Additionally, if amplification is required, a reliable power source needs to be available.
Q: Can I request specific tunes, or have a song arranged by the act?
Yes. Professional musicians are fast learners but would need enough notice if your specific favorite tune is not in their repertoire.
Some acts, that are very specific to their own genre will not do this.
If you have a song you want to be arranged, we have professional writers who can take a tune and make it sound great for a string quartet or other combination of instruments. Keep in mind this will cost extra.
